Today we celebrate National Caregivers Day, a day where we honor those who provide physical, practical and emotional support to those who need it most.
At Flatrock, our caregivers are the heart of our organization. They are the foundation on which our residents depend on to thrive. Their friendship and daily care are what make our care homes “home” and our staff and residents “family.”
What we need to ask ourselves as we commemorate these everyday heroes, is who is caring for our caregivers? Caregiving is fulfilling, but also can be difficult and stressful. It is important for caregivers to remember to care for themselves and be aware of signs of stress.
Some signs that a caregiver is under stress are feelings of worry, tiredness, disturbed sleep patterns, loss of weight and general shifts in mood. If you are a caregiver feeling signs of stress, or know of one, know there are resources available.
The patience and dedication our caregivers provide year-round should be recognized year-round as well. Today, especially, let caregivers know they are important and essential.
