Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
a. High school diploma or GED equivalent
b. Interest and experience working with adults with special needs
c. Must be reliable and dependable
d. Must be patient, firm, and consistent and enjoy working with adults with special needs
e. High tolerance for misbehavior and ability to empathize with and re-direct misbehavior
f. Must respect the confidentiality of residents
g. Ability to intervene with behaviors in a non-punitive and supportive manner
h. Must be able to accept supervision and work cooperatively with other staff
i. Must have the ability to relate to all members of the community regardless of race, age, gender, cultural, or ethnic background
j. Must have good physical mobility due to need to assist residents with limited mobility or in case of emergency
k. A demonstrated respect for the individuals and families with whom they work
l. Ability to approach residents with flexibility, sensitivity, and respect
m. Ability to represent Flatrock Manor in a professional manner
n. Ability to work flexible hours as needed (i.e., some evenings or weekend work is required)
o. Must have reliable transportation
Job Duties:
Core Responsibilities
a. Assist in creating and maintaining a safe, inviting, and accepting environment for adults with special needs
b. Communicating with residents and guardians
c. Assist other staff in organizing and carrying out planned activities
d. Model appropriate techniques when interacting with residents and guardians
e. Communicate any difficulties with residents to Management
f. Demonstrated respect for the individuals and families with whom they work
g. Ability to approach residents with flexibility, sensitivity, and respect
h. Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required
i. Educate, train, and advocate for all Flatrock Manor residents' rights
