Celebrating International Day of Persons with Disabilities
Today, Flatrock observes a very important holiday, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
This United Nations-sanctioned day promotes the rights and well-being of persons with physical and mental disabilities at every level of society around the world.
The theme for 2023 is: “United in action to rescue and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for, with and by persons with disabilities.” What this means is that as progress is made in society, the needs of people with disabilities should be remembered and they should also be partners in the journey.
One of the key Sustainable Development goals referenced in this year’s theme is “Reduced Inequalities”; and that mindset is central to our philosophy at Flatrock. We believe people of all ability levels must be treated equally, and everything we do at our care homes is done with that goal in mind.
We advocate for our Flatrock residents through ongoing support, and empowering them to become independent.
Today’s celebration echoes the core values we live by at Flatrock, and we are excited to join the world in marking this important day and the essential role people of all abilities have in our world.
