Direct Care Worker

1. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

a. High school diploma or GED equivalent

b. Interest and experience working with adults with special needs

c. Must be reliable and dependable

d. Must be patient, firm, consistent, and enjoy working with adults with special needs

e. Must have high tolerance for misbehavior and the ability to empathize with and re-direct misbehavior

f. Must respect the confidentiality of residents

g. Ability to intervene with behaviors in a non-punitive and supportive manner

h. Must be able to accept supervision and work cooperatively with other staff

i. Must have the ability to relate to all members of the community regardless of race, age, gender, cultural, or ethnic background

j. Must have good physical mobility due to need to assist residents with limited mobility or in case of emergency

k. Demonstrate respect for the individuals and families with whom they work

l. Ability to approach residents with flexibility, sensitivity, and respect

m. Ability to represent Coordinated Care Professional Services, LLC, in a professional manner

n. Must have reliable transportation

2. Job Duties

A. Core Responsibilities:

a. Assist in creating and maintaining a safe, inviting, and accepting environment for adults with special needs

b. Communicate with residents and guardians

c. Assist other staff in organizing and carrying out planned activities

d. Model appropriate techniques when interacting with residents and guardians

e. Communicate any difficulties with residents to Management

f. Ability to approach residents with flexibility, sensitivity, and respect

g. Perform responsibilities such as medication passer, administering medications, taking vitals, and assist in providing direct personal care for residents

h. Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required

i. Educate, train, and advocate for all Flatrock residents’ rights

3. Physical Requirement/Working Conditions:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential· functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach with hands and arms, to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; to talk and hear; and frequently required to walk and move about the facility. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, and/or kneel. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds or more. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, additional work will occur in the community interacting with residents where noise level may heighten, and violence can occur. May involve travel to other locations/agencies/meetings. May require evening, weekend, holiday hours.

4. Acknowledgment of Risk:

This position poses inherent risks because of the nature of the resident population. The residents can be volatile and physical, and direct care workers may be required to exercise legal and appropriate restraint with residents, utilize safety protocols to intervene during physical or violent acts by residents, and work in an environment where the work involves a chance of incurring a disabling or life-threatening injury.

5. Other Skills and Abilities Required:  

The employee fulfilling this job is accountable to the assigned supervisor for completion of assignments and to the high standards of accuracy, attention to detail, and timely completion of work. Expectations include: a pleasant, empathetic, sensitive, and professional demeanor, a positive attitude, and a willing spirit. The employee must be willing to engage in professional development efforts as available to the position and required by management.
